Former Lee County Prosecutor Released From Prison

Posted Updated

LEE COUNTY, N.C. — A former Lee County prosecutor accused of asking his girlfriend to kill his wife is now a free man.

Bill Huggins completed a 10-month prison sentence over the weekend.

"I did a lot of things I shouldn't have done and it's true, I did betray the public's trust," Huggins said.

In an interview Friday, Huggins told WRAL he plans to return home to his wife and family in Sanford and look for a job there.

Huggins pleaded guilty to embezzlement, and obstruction of justice charges, and surrendered his law license. He said he has had no contact with his former girlfriend Melissa Davis.
