Raleigh Man Files Formal Complaint Against Police

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh man on Thursday filed a formal complaint against police officers he says improperly stopped him.

Raleigh police stopped Patrick Riley and his cousin Saturday afternoon near his subdivision. Riley said he was told he was armed and dangerous, was made to kneel on the ground and was handcuffed.

Police were looking for suspects in an earlier shooting who were driving a car similar to the one Riley was in. When the police realized they had the wrong man, Riley was released.

The Internal Affairs Department is investigating the incident.
