DURHAM COUNTY, N.C. — One person was killed Friday morning in a wreck between a car and a tractor-trailer near the Rougemont community.

The wreck happened in dense fog at 5:40 a.m. on Highway 501 South on Moores Mill Road near Highway 501. The 18-wheeler overturned.

According to the Highway Patrol, the driver of a 1992 Toyota Camry was traveling westbound when he failed to stop for a stop sign at a foggy intersection and drove into the path of the tractor-trailer.

The Camry's driver, Tiao Thach, 70, of Timberlake, was killed.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Lindell Canty, 63, of Yanceyville, said he never saw the car.

The state Highway Patrol and the Durham County Sheriff's Office are investigating. No charges will be filed.

Southbound lanes were closed for much of the morning, but have reopened.
