Hope Mills Lake Dam Construction Faces Setback

Posted Updated

HOPE MILLS, N.C. — Hope Mills residents may have to wait a little longer to get their lake back.

The state wants to document five historic structures near Hope Mills Lake before construction begins.

Crews planned to start work in August. Now, construction not start until January 2005. After that, it could take as long as one year to finish the project.

The dam collapsed during Memorial Day weekend last year after a series of thunderstorms dumped four to six inches of rain in less than 24 hours.
