Man wanted for murder in Fayetteville shooting

Jeremy Lockett, 25, of 1913 Ash Ridge Drive in Fayetteville, was sitting in a car with another man outside Quality Cigars in the Strickland Bridge Center Shopping Center when two people climbed into the back seat of the car, police said.

Investigators said there was some kind of altercation, and then two people left the scene. Lockett was dead.

Police have not offered a motive but said that they are looking for Xavier Christian Freeman, 20, who is charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Freeman, of Harriman Court in Cameron, is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 138 pounds. He has shoulder-length dreadlocks and has two tattoos – one that reads "God's Son" on his arm and another, "Only the Strong Survive," on his chest.

Investigators say Freeman, who frequents the Charlotte area, drives a white 1996 Buick Roadmaster with license plate AEY-2133, which was seen leaving the scene immediately after Lockett was shot.

Police did not say whether they have identified the second person whom they say also got into the car.

The tobacco store's owner, Bashir Seidi, said he did not know Lockett but that the other man who was initially in the car is a frequent customer.

Seidi said the men had been sitting in the parking lot for just a few seconds before the shooting.

Lockett is the second person fatally shot outside the tobacco store. Leon Mosely, 20, was killed there Nov. 20, 2008.

Seidi said the shootings are a coincidence.
