Charges Filed Against Man Accused Of Striking Officer With Car

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Charges have been filed against a man police say ran over a Raleigh police officer.

Robert Coleman will face charges of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of stolen property.

The charges result from Coleman's use of a stolen car to assault Raleigh police officer J.M. Rios over the weekend.

Officers pulled him over Sunday morning because they said he was driving a stolen car. They said he ran over Rios as Rios approached him. That is when another officer shot Coleman.

Coleman is in good condition. Rios was treated and released.

The officer guarding Coleman at WakeMed has the arrest warrants in his possession, and Coleman will be processed by a magistrate as soon as he can be released from the hospital. It is expected that Coleman will be released Wednesday.
