Wake EMS worker suspended amid child porn probe
A Wake County emergency services worker has been placed on unpaid suspension amid allegations that he traded child pornography over the Internet.
Posted — UpdatedDr. Brent Myers, medical director for the Wake County EMS System, said Monday that Scott Edward Shields, a paramedic and a field training officer was placed on an investigatory suspension pending the outcome of the criminal probe.
Search warrants allege that he traded child pornography online and bragged about sexually abusing a child to another man, Howard Underwood, in Johnston County.
Underwood pleaded guilty in April to federal charges of distribution of child pornography. He is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 6.
The State Bureau of Investigation has not charged Shields, 41, of 1004 White Meadows Drive in Fuquay-Varina. He could not be reached for comment Monday.
Myers said Shields is stationed at the Holly Springs Fire Department but does not work for it or the town of Holly Springs. He has been a county employee for 11 years.
