Police Create Videotape In Hope Of New Leads In Stephanie Bennett Case

In May 2002, police say Bennett was raped and murdered in her north Raleigh apartment. No one has ever been arrested for the crime.

The first part of the tape provides video of Bennett in her last year of high school, as well as scenes from a vacation to visit her aunt in California during the summer of 1996, Christmas 1996, and Bennett's graduation from high school. The remainder of the tape provides copies of video recorded at the crime scene.

The crime scene video shows the parking lot outside Bennett's apartment near Bennett's 2002 Black Honda Accord after the police were called on May 21, 2002. The video shows the window on the front side of the apartment, where it is believed the killer made entry into the apartment.

The video then shows the entry into Bennett's apartment. The apartment appeared very orderly with no evidence of ransacking. The camera then moves down the hallway of the apartment to the bedroom where Bennett was found.

Authorities said the only item taken in the crime was a JVC Model MXC220 bookshelf stereo system.
