CARY, N.C. — The National Transportation Safety Board has released its
preliminary report
into Monday's plane crash in Cary.
The report said pilot Jerome Kurtz contacted the tower at RDU International and asked for help landing because he was not familiar with the area.
After two attempts failed, the tower offered to divert him to the Greensboro airport. The pilot refused and stated he needed to land at RDU. He crashed on his third attempt.
Kurtz, 66, and his wife, Carolyn, of Payson, Ariz., were both killed in the crash.
