Driver Charged After Car Strikes Utility Pole, Injuring Three

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police say speed, alcohol and drugs were factors in an early morning wreck in Raleigh.

Driver Nicholas Hicks, of Goldsboro, and two passengers were injured after the BMW he was driving rolled over and struck a utility pole at Glascock Street and Raleigh Boulevard around 3:50 a.m.

Hicks was charged with driving without a license, DWI, careless and reckless driving and exceeding a safe speed.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to remove Hicks and Jermaine Tate, of Goldsboro, from the car.Both men and a third passenger, Kasual Walker, of Raleigh, were taken to WakeMed.

Tate remains there in good condition.
