Funeral date set for legendary coach LeRoy Walker

Funeral arrangements have been set for LeRoy Walker, a legendary track coach at North Carolina Central University and the first black person to head the U.S. Olympic Committee.

DURHAM, N.C. — Funeral arrangements have been set for LeRoy Walker, a legendary track coach at North Carolina Central University and the first black person to head the U.S. Olympic Committee.

A viewing is scheduled for April 30 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the B.N. Duke Auditorium on the N.C. Central campus, a university spokeswoman said Wednesday. A funeral will be held May 1 at 11 a.m. at Duke University Chapel.

Walker died Monday in Durham at the age of 93. He is survived by a daughter and a son.

The family has not released any information about how he died.
