Former Detective Gets Suspended Sentence For Faking Confession

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A former Johnston County detective recieved a suspended sentenceafter admitting to falsifying a confession from a suspect.

Fulton Stanley faced a felony charge, but pleaded guilty to misdemeanor obstruction of justice.

Stanley got a 45-day suspended sentence and two years of probation during Wednesday's court hearing. He must performs 100 hours of community service and pay a $1,000 fine.

Stanley had been a sheriff's deputy since the mid-1990s.
