Cumberland Man Charged In Shooting

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — A 71-year-old man accused of shooting and critically injuring his daughter's boyfriend makes his first court appearance Monday.

John Thompkins is charged with attempted first-degree murder.

Cumberland County deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at his house on Crystal Springs Drive late Saturday.

Deputies found 21-year old James Sweers with a gunshot wound in the back.

Thompkins is being held on $100,000 bond.
