Civilian Contractors Face Constant Dangers In Iraq

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Four contractors from the Blackwater Security Consulting were ambushed and killed in Fallujah Wednesday. Some experts say there may be more attacks on U.S. civilians in the near future.

William Ott has a technology company that does contract work in Iraq. He said contractors know the dangers when they go overseas and are trained for it.

"The incident [Wednesday] is a tragedy. It does make me very angry, but it does not surprise me," Ott said. "Those things are going to happen. It's unfortunately part of war."

Retired Army Captain Craig Marks said angry mobs are going after U.S. civilians because attacking Iraqi soldiers have not driven the military out.

"They have tried to hit the military. The president has stood up and said, 'It's not going to work. We're gonna stay there,'" Marks said. "So now, they are hitting civilian contractors and also missionaries. They are soft targets."

based on 6,000 acres in Currituck and Camden counties. The four contractors who were killed were contracted by the U.S. government to supply security for food deliveries.
