Durham Jury Acquits Harris Of Attempted Murder

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — A verdict of not guilty was handed down Wednesday for a man once considered one of the Triangle's most wanted.

A Durham jury acquitted Virgil Harris of attempted murder.

He still is accused of several violent robberies in Wake and Orange counties. He has yet to be tried on those charges.

Harris was accused of trying to shoot his supposed ex-girlfriend. Harris reportedly claimed she was never a girlfriend, but a stalker.

He was charged with firing a weapon into an occupied vehicle and other charges, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

It happened in November of 2001.
