NC motorcycle clubs rally for Trayvon Martin

Authorities in Sanford, Fla., say 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed Feb. 26 by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, who told police he shot Martin in self-defense.

Bikers left Durham around 4 p.m. Sunday, rode to Greensboro where they met more bikers, and then rode back to Durham. 

"The most important thing that we need to learn as part of the community is to make sure that your neighbors are treated fairly, that everybody you deal with is treated fairly and just being aware," event organizer Ramsey Richardson said. 

Organizers also raised money that will go to the Trayvon Martin fund in Florida to help pay for legal costs associated with the case. 

In late March, hundreds attended several rallies across the Triangle to mark one month since the shooting and call for justice in Martin's death. 

Martin's supporters believe race played a role in the shooting. Martin was black; Zimmerman's father is white, and his mother is Hispanic. They have said that their son is not a racist.

The outcry has prompted petitions for Zimmerman's arrest as well as investigations by a local grand jury and the U.S. Department of Justice.
