WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — Two people are recovering after a wreck on Highway 55 Tuesday morning.

A Ford Ranger and Explorer crashed head-on just south of Fuquay-Varina.

Investigators said Leonard Clayton, the driver of the Explorer, may have lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center line. According to officials, Clayton was not allowed to drive due to his medical condition.

Both Clayton and Thomas Whitehead, the driver of the Ford Ranger, were hurt, but they were conscious when they were taken to WakeMed, authorities said.
