RALEIGH, N.C. — When Dorothea Dix Hospital closes in 2007, the Department of Health and Human Services wants to renovate patient rooms into offices so it can consolidate all its employees to one campus.
Officials found chipped paint, cracked walls and leaky ceilings in a tour Monday of several Dorothea Dix buildings.
The campus stays in the state agency's possession unless a decision is made to sell it.
Mental health advocates would like to see the property sold with the money going to mental health programs.
