Pantano Writing Book On Iraq, Ordeal At Home

Former Marine Corps 2nd Lt. Ilario Pantano is writing a book he is calling "Warlord: No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy."

While investigating a suspected lair of Iraqi insurgents with his platoon in April 2004, Pantano shot two Iraqis he said made threatening moves toward him.

He left a handwritten cardboard sign on the bodies that said, "No better friend, no worse enemy."

Pantano is a former Wall Street trader who fought to return to the Marines after the September Eleventh terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.

In May, a Marine general decided not to bring Pantano to trial. Pantano resigned his military commission the following week.

The book's publisher said the book will tell Pantano's side of the story.

Pantano said he has received threatening e-mails, adding that a Web site based in Pakistan had posted death threats against him. Those threats persuaded him to leave to protect his wife and two young sons.
