Wake County School Named Nation's Top Magnet School

RALEIGH, N.C. — For the second straight year, a Wake Countyelementary school has been named the nation's top magnet school.

Bugg Elementary School received the award Tuesday from Magnet Schools ofAmerica, a trade organization that's meeting in Raleigh this week.

Raleigh's Washington Elementary, which won last year, andDouglas Elementary were among 12 finalists.

Bugg's win is the latest national achievement for the Wakesystem. In February, Superintendent Bill McNeal earned the nationalsuperintendent of the year award from the American Association ofSchool Administrators.

Bugg is a 426-student school in East Raleigh that draws familiesfrom across the county with its creative arts and science theme.

The school uses the national "A+ School" program, in whichstudents get daily arts instruction. Teachers infuse the curriculumwith art. For instance, drama teachers may act
