Truck Driver Killed In Georgia Amtrak Accident

HINESVILLE, GA. — A truck driver is dead and someinjuries are reported after an Amtrak passenger train which made astop in North Carolina hit the truck Tuesday morning in southeastGeorgia.

A spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol says the truck,carrying lumber, pulled in front of the train, the southboundSilver Star.

An Amtrak spokesman says 15 people boarded the train at theRaleigh station, but he does not know how many of those passengerswere on the train when it wrecked at 7:20 a.m.

Authorities say 27 people -- 5 employees and 22 passengers -- were hurt in the accident.

The engine and ten other cars left the track, but the trainremained upright.
