Seatbelts Save 2 Lives In Durham Co. Accident That Kills 1

The accident happened near Bahama. The state Highway Patrol said self-employed landscaper Winfred Dee Black, 64, of Timberlake, was killed after his pickup truck flipped over five times.

According to investigators at the scene, Black's truck was heading southbound in the outside lane of U.S. 501 and veered into the inside lane. The truck hit a Volvo, and the bumper of the car got under the truck and sent it airborne.

A state trooper said that when the truck hit the ground, its tires deflated, and the truck overturned.

The truck came to rest upright in the median, while the Volvo slid sideways into the median.

Ronald Taylor, a passenger in the truck, was wearing a seat belt. But he slidpartway out of the truck's rear window during its last roll.

Taylor suffered minor injuries. The Volvo's driver was wearing a seat beltand was not injured.
