Triangle's State Parks Remain Closed Due To Storm Damage

RALEIGH, N.C. — The state Division of Parks and Recreation announced Monday that state parks in the Triangle may stay closed for a few weeks.

State parks throughout the central part of the state have beenclosed since Wednesday's storm. They include parks from Charlotteto Halifax County in the northeast part of the state.

State parks Superintendent Lewis Ledford said the heaviestdamage was reported at Lake Norman State Park and in the regionsurrounding the Triangle.

Ledford said Falls Lake State Recreation Area, William B.Umstead State Park and Lake Norman State Park will probably beclosed for an extended period.

He said people should call the state park office before planninga trip to other parks in the region.
