Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — The man tapped to lead Durham County schools is getting a raise.

Deputy Superintendent Carl Harris signed off on a four-year contract with a $34,000 bump in pay. He came to Durham Public Schools in 2003 from the top job in Franklin County Schools.

Harris’ salary starts at $185,000 a year, with the possibility of annual 5 percent bonuses. He will replace outgoing superintendent Ann Denlinger, who retires in June.
