North Carolina Man Convicted Of Stealing Bread Recipes

NORRISTOWN, PA. — A North Carolina man was found guilty Thursday of burglary and theft of trade secrets for stealing recipes from a family-owned bakery last year.

Mazen Fathi Said, 32, owner of a bakery in Greensboro, N.C. was found guilty of entering the Morabito Baking Company in Norristown on two different days in June 2003 and stealing books containing more than 50 recipes for bread and rolls. Prosecutors said he also videotaped the bakery's operations.

The recipes were later recovered.

Said told workers he had been invited to tour the bakery by members of the Morabito family.

Morabito Baking Company distributes bread to 28 states and provides products for the Carnival cruise line.

Said's sentencing is set for Nov. 1.
