North Carolina 63, St. John's 59

NEW YORK — Rashad McCants scored 21 points, including theclinching free throws with 5-point-6 seconds to play, and Number 22North Carolina beat St. John's 63-to-59 today in the consolationgame of the Holiday Festival.

The Tar Heels had two players back who missed yesterday's lossto Iona. But they played their first full game without freshmancenter Sean May, who will miss eight-to-ten weeks with a brokenfoot.

Jawad Williams, who missed the Iona game with a stomach virus,had 17 points and ten rebounds for North Carolina. Raymond Feltonadded eleven points and nine assists.

Marcus Hatten had 19 points and ten rebounds for the Red Storm,which is 5-and-3.

At 8-and-3, the Tar Heels have already matched last season's wintotal.
