NC's Unemployment Rate Increases From Previous June

RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina's seasonally-adjustedunemployment rate edged downward in June.

The Employment Security Commission jobless rate wassix-point-seven percent, down from six-point-eight percent in May.Last June, unemployment in North Carolina stood at five-point-fivepercent.

The state rate in June was higher than the national average offive-point-nine percent.

Total nonagricultural employment in the state grew by neatly22,000 over the month, as employment in service industriesincreased and manufacturing jobs decreased. This continues thepattern of the past year, with service industries increasing theiremployment by nearly 61,000 and manufacturing decreasing bymore than 36,000.
