Fuquay-Varina Residents Get Worked Up About Lack Of Workout

Posted Updated

FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — The facility is called Beyond Fitness, but members did not think that meant their workout would be out of reach. Dozens of people bought prepaid memberships, but the gym still has not opened and customers are outraged.

Alan and Kristi Morisi decided to join in December when it looked like construction was almost complete. They signed a two-year contract and paid $598 upfront.

"They assured us the club would be open at the end of December," Alan Morisi said.

Alan Morisi said Beyond Fitness has since pushed back its opening date several times. Now, the couple is concerned it may never open.

"When they tell you three weeks and then three weeks and then three weeks and nothing ever happens, we don't know if it will be next June or the end of the month," Alan said.

"They're leaving us in the dark," Kristi said.

Kristi Morisi filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Fifty-one other people have also filed complaints about the company. The complaints against the company's Cary headquarters involve contract and refund problems over the last year and a half. Forty-two complaints are still unresolved.

The company told the Morisis they can use facilities in Cary or Garner until the Fuquay-Varina location is finished, but the couple said that is not what they paid for and think it is absurd considering they live in Angier.

"We've gone to Garner a few times, but it takes us more than 40 minutes just to get there," Alan said.

The owner said he is just as frustrated as the customers. He blames it on construction delays and equipment that has not arrived, but he hopes to open by the end of February. He also stressed that the memberships will not officially begin until the club actually opens. He said no one will lose time or money on their memberships.
