Warren Residents Claim New Animal Control Ordinance Addresses Basic Issues

For years, June Gibbs has fought with the county over the way animals were treated at the county pound.

"The problem is very serious and widespread," she said.

Gibbs and other residents hope the new ordinance will turn things around. Raymond Adock, who owns 20 hunting dogs, helped draft the part of the ordinance that addresses nuisance animals.

"In other words, if a dog goes across your property one time doesn't mean it's a nuisance. It has to be an habitual thing," Adcock said.

The county expects to add more teeth to the ordinance in the months to come.

Warren County is negotiating with Vance County to handle the euthanizing of the animals. County commissioners will address funding of the animal control program at its next meeting.
