Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Election officials in Durham announced there would be a delay in releasing election results.

Officials said the River Church at 4007 Holt School Road opened 50 minutes late Tuesday because the door to the church was locked. Approximately 100 voters were waiting and could not vote at the required 6:30 a.m. opening.

Twenty of those voters went to the Board of Elections office on Corporation Street and cast their ballot. Officals said those ballots wwere being taken to Durham County Precinct No. 23 and inserted in the tabulator there to be counted with all other Precinct 23 ballots.

As a result of the delayed opening, the Durham County Board of Elections announced that Precinct No. 23 would remain open until 8:30 p.m., with election results released shortly afterward.
