RALEIGH, N.C. — Hanes Geo-Components will build a new manufacturing and distribution facility in Nash County and create 212 jobs over the next three years.

The news is a boost for Nash County, which has an unemployment rate of 5.4 percent. The state unemployment rate is 4.5 percent.

Hanes Geo-Components, which has several operations around North Carolina, is a landscaping supply company.

The firm will build a 200,000 square foot building in the Nash County town of Middlesex. It plans to invest $4.5 million in the plant.

The State of North Carolina provided a $212,000 One North Carolina Fund grant as an incentive to pick Nash County. The state grants require at least a match of the grant amount from local government and other partners.

Hanes Geo-Components is a subsidiary of Hanes Companies, which is based in Winston-Salem. Hanes Geo-Components produces erosion control and other landscaping supplies. It also has plants in Charlotte, Greensboro and Leland.

Average weekly wages at the Nash County facility will be $642 plus benefits. Average Nash County wages are $576 plus benefits.

“Hanes is excited to increase our investment in North Carolina-based operations,” said John Dowdell, president of Hanes Geo-Components. “We believe the North Carolina business environment and North Carolinian work ethics provide us a strong foundation on which to continue to build our business.”

Also participating in the plant recruitment process were the N.C. Department of Commerce, Nash County, Town of Middlesex, Carolinas Gateway Partnership and Progress Energy.
