Posted Updated

MATTHEWS, N.C. — CEM Corporation

, a provider of microwave laboratory instrumentation, is opening a microwave chemistry division in India.

CEM, which is privately held and employs 200 people, is working with Niulab Equipment Company to launch the new effort. Niulab is CEM’s distributor.

The division will focus on increasing adoption of microwave chemistry in the academic and commercial markets in India.

“India’s scientific community is growing rapidly, and many of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies either have laboratory facilities in the country or outsource to Indian companies,” said Michael Collins, chief executive officer of CEM. “Our relationships with Niulab and some of the top chemists using microwave technology in India give us a unique understanding of the market and its needs.”

The new division includes four chemists and is expected to grow to 10 members over two years, CEM said.
