BENSON, N.C. — A Johnston County teacher is recovering from injuries suffered in a road rage attack, police said.

Johnny Elmore, 47, a teacher at Benson Middle School, was driving on Interstate 95 on Tuesday when his Chevrolet truck was rammed from behind by a Dodge truck, police said. Elmore put on his brakes and even locked his emergency brake on, but the Dodge truck pushed his truck about 450 feet down the highway, police said.

When the trucks finally came to a stop, Elmore was punched in the mouth, eye and groin by the driver of the other truck, police said.

A parent of one of Elmore's students called police after witnessing the attack.

John Harrison Reeder III, 59, of Selma, has been charged in connection with the incident. He is undergoing a mental evaluation, police said.

Elmore told police he doesn't remember cutting anyone off on I-95 or acting aggressive on the highway to incite the attack.
