, which is also based in the Triangle, made the announcement on Tuesday.
Jianzhong Yang, vice chairman of the Park, and Lian Xie, executive director of the North Carolina Center, said Raleigh was picked for the office following a recent visit to China by a North Carolina trade delegation.
Suzhou Industrial Park, which is 40 miles from Shanghai, is a joint effort by the governments of China and Singapore. Nearly 2,400 foreign firms are invested in the industrial development zone.
"We are pleased to establish our North American headquarters in association with the N.C. China Center in Raleigh," Yang said in a statement. "The educational, financial and technological leadership demonstrated by our colleagues here in North Carolina made this an obvious choice that we believe will benefit both the Suzhou Industrial Park and businesses in North Carolina and throughout North America."
The North Carolina China Center is less than a year old.
The opening of the business park headquarters could lead to more Chinese investment in North Carolina and opportunities for N.C.-based businesses to expand their efforts in China, said Tony Copeland, an assistant secretary with the state’s Department of Commerce.
The China Center and the new headquarters are located at Longistics in the World Trade Park near Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
