Georgia Tech To Dedicate Next-Generation Networking Lab On Oct. 23

ATLANTA — Georgia Tech will dedicate a new networking lab loaded with $5 million in equipment on Monday.

The lab will be used as a test bed for development of next-generation networks known as IP (Internet Protocol) Multimedia Subsystem, or IMS. Such networks will integrate audio, video and data.

The lab is sponsored by Siemens Networks, Cingular Wireless, the Georgia Electronic Design Center and the Georgia Tech Research Network Operations Center.

Siemens Networks is providing the lab with equipment for IMS networks. Students participating in a research competition for IMS applications will utilize the lab. The competition offers $100,000 in prizes.

Siemens, Cingular and Georgia Tech are sponsoring the contest.
