Durham County Sheriff Worth Hill said Monday that deputies Michael Owens, Brad King and Keith Dodson have been terminated from his department. All three had been suspended over the weekend following a Friday night raid on La Zona nightclub on North Roxboro Street.
Owens, who owned the club, and four other men were arrested during the raid. Owens has been charged with drug trafficking and is free on a $50,000 bond.
King and Dodson were working off-duty as security guards at the club, but they weren't charged in connection with the raid.
Owens had been a deputy for three years, while King and Dodson had each been with the Durham County Sheriff's Office for seven years, Hill said. Dodson was a member of the department's anti-gang unit.
Hill said he is reviewing departmental policies and might forbid deputies from working off-duty security jobs at area nightclubs.
Meanwhile, residents near La Zona said they were happy the club has been shut down.
"I think it's going to be better for the community around here because there was a different breed of clientele around here," business owner Dee Sawyer said.
