Wake Reassignment Meeting Draws Crowd

Posted Updated

APEX, N.C. — Parents unhappy with Wake County's student reassignment plan were packed into Apex Town HallMonday night.

The 2004-05 plan involves moving more than 8,300 students -- the biggest reassignment in the county's history.

Parents who attended the meeting said they want more control over where their children go to school.

Wake school leaders said the reassignment stems from a need to ease overcrowding.

A group called Assignment By Choice and the mayors of Apex and Cary sponsored the meeting.

Parents have until Monday to comment on the plan.
