FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — A man was killed Friday in an accident involving a conveyor belt in Fuquay-Varina.

Officials say a 42-year-old man got caught in the conveyer belt machinery around 10:30 a.m. Friday at Thomas Concrete Co. on 140 Pamela Drive.

Investigators say the worker somehow got caught in the conveyer belt, but they do not know if the machine malfunctioned or if he fell in. Fire and EMS personnel freed the victim from the conveyer belt, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released, pending family notification.

The Harnett County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident as a work-related accident.
