JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — The State Bureau of Investigation has ruled a Johnton County sheriff's deputy was justified in shooting a suspect after a high-speed chase.
Deputy Brian Clifton tried to pull over Gerald O'Neal back in October.
After a brief car chase, O'Neal reportedly took off on foot. He and Clifton got into a struggle over Clifton's weapons.
Authorities say Clifton grabbed his gun and shot O'Neal twice to protect himself. O'Neal is paralyzed from the waist down.
