Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — The cars of the future will pass through Duke University.

The school is partnering with General Motors to develop fuel-cell vehicles by 2010.

Fuel cells produce electricity through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen.

GM gave Duke an initial donation of about $500,000. Chairman Rick Wagoner graduated from Duke and played on the men's basketball team.
