DURHAM, N.C. — A staff shortage has the Durham Police Department searching for solutions.
In the last six months, more than 20 officers have left the department. Chief Steve Chalmers said most of them left for higher-salary jobs in other police departments.
If the vacancy rate continues, Chalmers plans to ask the City Council for enough money to fund up to 10 new positions.
