Police said the car they were riding in pulled in front of a tractor-trailer.
Two other teens survived the crash. While they recover, so does the community.
Just days after Halloween, the horror continued for four families.
"It is such a shock that you lose your baby," James Currin said.
Currin lost his daughter, Rachel, in Friday's car wreck on the way to a church event.
Rachel's group was supposed to take a bus from their church to the event. But, so many people showed up that some had to drive separately.
Rachel shared a car with Matthew Edwards, Jessica Campbell and Brian Morrison.
They pulled out of the church parking lot and onto old U.S. 421. According to troopers, they made it about 40 miles up the road, pulled into an intersection, and got hit by a tractor-trailer.
Edwards, who was driving, also died in the crash.
People who knew Edwards and Currin remembered his love for the ministry and drama.
"He was a great guy to be around," said Bill Sutter, one of Edwards' teachers. "He was always the life of the party."
Rachel Currin was known for her love for people, especially children.
"She is a ray of sunshine now in Heaven," said Joan Taylor, one of Currin's teachers. "She is looking down on all of us."
Troopers said the truck driver was not at fault in the crash. They said Edwards pulled into the path of the 18-wheeler.
Meanwhile, Campbell was in critical condition Monday, and Morrison was upgraded to fair condition.
