DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are offering a reward for information on several intentionally set fires at the Piney Wood Park in the past two months.

The most recent fires happened on Friday night in the dog park area of the park at 400 East Woodcroft Parkway. Police said a stretch of woods about 40 feet by 50 feet was burned in the blaze, just hours after a sign near the entrance to the park was set on fire.

On Dec. 3, a Lincoln Town Car was heavily damaged in an intentionally set fire at the park, police said. On Dec. 25, a 2003 Lexus was destroyed in a fire at the park. Four days later, someone set the park's maintenance storage room on fire in the middle of the night and also painted graffiti on a bathroom wall.

On Jan. 30, workers found evidence of a fire that damaged trees and pine straw in the park. It is not known when that fire was set.

No one has been injured in the fires.

"I think it's a shame. So many people come up here. There's a children's park also. I'm afraid somebody is going to get hurt," said Susan Reynolds, who brings her dogs to the park at least once a day.

Anyone with information about the fires is asked to call police at 919-560-4415, extensions 29311 or 29306 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.
