A tractor-trailer driven by Christopher Earl Motes of Dallas, Ga., was coming off Wade Avenue and onto the beltline when it overturned shortly after 9 a.m. Monday.
Authorities say a second vehicle -- a 1995 Toyota pickup truck -- was involved in the accident. According to the accident report, as the tractor-trailer swung out of control and flipped over, the trailer struck the pickup truck driven by David Field Thompson, Jr. of Wendell, forcing it into a guardrail. The accident report does not indicate any known injuries sustained by Thompson.
Crews had to shut down the beltline as crews worked to right the truck. Traffic was diverted to Wade Avenue, to Blue Ridge Road, to Hillsborough Street and then back to the beltline.
Hours later, officials were able to remove the tractor-trailer and traffic is flowing again.
Motes was charged with careless and reckless driving and failure to reduce speed. According to the accident report, Motes was transported to Wake Med by EMS. His condition is unknown. The truck, a 2002 Mack, is owned by Ryder Truck Rental of Macon, Ga.
