WENDELL, N.C. — Police have arrested two men in connection with an armed robbery and high-speed chase Monday in the town of Wendell.

According to authorities, three men robbed the IGA Foodliner store on Wendell Boulevard Monday morning and then fled the scene in a vehicle. Police chased the men for a brief period of time before the chase ended with a collision with another vehicle near the intersection of Pine and Third streets.

A woman and her child, who were in the other car, were injured in the crash but not seriously, authorities said. Authorities said police had actually called off the chase about a half-mile before the crash occurred because they felt it was too dangerous.

Darrell Anderson, 22, of Charlotte, was apprehended after the crash while the other two men fled on foot. Just after 4 p.m., police also arrested Miles Bynum, 23, also of Charlotte.

Shortly after noon, police took a third man in custody but released him without charging him. They said they do not believe he took part in the crime, even though he was with the other suspects.

Police searched the Wendell area with the help of a Highway Patrol helicopter and the Wake County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit. Authorities said they recovered a bag with some money believed to be from the robbery.
