FREMONT, N.C. — The Fremont town board fired its police chief Tuesday after his arrest for drunk driving.

Chief Terry Grant was dismissed for failure in personal conduct. The board's action is effective immediately.

Grant was charged with driving while intoxicated Friday in Wilson County. He is the second Fremont police chief accused of drunken driving. His predecessor, Floyd Hobbs, resigned in August 2001 after two DWI charges.
