Newest Portion Of American Tobacco Trail Opens

Posted Updated

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — Local bikers have some new territory to cover.

This weekend marked the official opening of the newest portion of the American Tobacco Trail.

The four-mile stretch starting at New Hill-Olive Chapel Road in Wake County follows an abandoned corridor of the Norfolk Southern Railroad. The trail is open to walkers, joggers and even people on horseback.

State leaders say the trail has been a long time coming, pointing out the great facilities available to those who want to take advantage of them.

There is still work to be done on the American Tobacco Trail. Once the trail is completed, it will cover 23 miles from Wake County to downtown Durham.
