N.C. Congressmen Host Medicare Roundtables

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Money and medicine will be the questions of the day at a roundtable discussion at the Clayton Senior Center Monday.

Reps. Bob Etheridge, David Price and Brad Miller fielded questions about Medicare at a roundtable meeting held Saturday in Raleigh.

They explained the nuts and bolts of a prescription drug benefit for seniors being debated in Congress. All three congressmen are concerned about the plan, saying it would privatize Medicare and force seniors to make tough choices.

"This new premium support provision that would kick in in 2010. It would mean fee for service Medicare. Traditional medicare is put at a tremendous disadvantage and put on the road to oblivion," Price said.

The congressmen talked about their efforts to pass a simpler and more affordable prescription drug benefit.

Similar meetings took place across the nation.
