RALEIGH, N.C. — This weekend, Fayetteville Street in Raleigh will be shut down for the first time since it opened for traffic this summer for the Capital City Bike Fest.
Hundreds of motorcycles are expected to roar through the area for the weekend. The event will feature live music, food, and plenty of vendors. There will also be a police-escorted charity ride to benefit the Triangle United Way.
The Bike Fest is exactly the kind of event Mayor Charles Meeker and city planners had in mind when they re-opened Fayetteville Street at Raleigh Wide Open.
"With the reopening of the street, our city can come back home to Fayetteville Street," he said. "Our people are what makes Fayetteville Street special. It's a great place to be and a great place to be seen."
Other streets will be affected by the weekend event. Parts of Hargett, Martin and Davie streets from Salisbury to Wilmington streets will be closed until 7 a.m. Sunday.
