Driver Faces Charges In Beltline Wreck

RALEIGH, N.C. — One person is dead after an accident late Thursday night on Interstate 440 in Raleigh.

According to the police report, a tractor-trailer was parked on the shoulder of the inner Beltline near Six Forks Road when a pickup truck crashed into the back of it. According to a witness, the driver of the pickup truck, Roger Duan Romero, exited the vehicle, took off the license plate and ran into the woods.

Romero was later taken into custody. He faces several charges, including involuntary manslaughter and felony hit-and-run.

Police said the passenger in the pickup truck, Leon Hernandez, died in the accident.

Romero, as well as the driver and passenger in the tractor-trailer, were all taken to WakeMed. All three are expected to recover.
